Reporting to the Supervisor of Operations; the Fire and Life Safety Technician, is responsible for providing field support services on the installation, implementation, operation and maintenance of fire, life and safety systems; provides clients staff instruction and training on the use of these systems; and participates in all other projects related to the business interest of TOK Smartech.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Systems and Support Functions:
  • Provides local/ technical support for the installation, operation and maintenance of our client’s systems in accordance with federal and provincial legislation including any specific OEM or client’s procedures.
  • Provides systems support functions, identifies and specifies future business opportunities/ improvements.
  • Documents system issues for tracking and resolution purposes.
  • Documents issues for submission to vendors/ support organizations (e.g. RMA).
  • Documents business process changes/business impact of upgrades and modifications.
  • Completes day to day tasks to ensure daily operational needs are met in a timely fashion.
  • Supports problem resolution processes with client’s equipment and devices.
  • Reports issues and consults with management to develop options and recommendations on their solutions.
  • Provides input on business process changes and updates documentation.
  • Assists with the development of standards, identifies issues and assists with/implements resolutions.
  • Provides related training to clients staff, as directed, to support business practices.
Research and Reporting Functions:
  • Assists with the development of technical training materials and user documentation, participates in the preparation of presentations and acts as the presenter, as directed.
  • Develops and maintains documentation, forms, reports and queries within existing applications, and for the maintenance and installation of new systems.
  • Informs management of system environments and advises on its implications; regularly reviews technical literature regarding system methodologies, development productivity tools and techniques.
    • Ensures that all projects and task timetables are kept up to date and provides weekly status reports.
    • Works with end users to perform data quality/consistency checks on assigned databases/systems; reviews and evaluates the results of program and systems testing with management.
    • Provides technical expertise and support for clients, related systems and all other applications that are used in the delivery of their programs.
Project Activities:
  • Provides input to management for the planning process as it relates to the type of assets used by clients.
  • Provides input on recommendations for, and implementation of, future information systems to enhance departmental productivity.
  • Assists with the coordination of specific assigned systems development and implementation activities, from the preparation of the user requirements, general & detail designs, to development prototyping and implementation.
Liaison, Communication and Customer Service Activities:
  • Liaises with client’s front-line staff to schedules vehicles availability.
  • Participates on a multi-disciplinary team; provides contributions to implementation plans and ongoing support of information systems and automation initiatives within the department.
  • Participates on committees, task forces and work groups, as assigned; attends seminars, conferences and training as directed and shares information regarding initiatives and best practices with departmental staff.
    • Participates in team building activities; coaches and mentors staff members, as assigned.
    • Ensures services provided meet the highest level of customer service standards.
Other Assignments:
  • Participates in project planning and performance activities as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, to meet department objectives, (including but not limited to scheduled and emergency tasks beyond normal business hours).

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a Community College program in Electronics Engineering, Computer Sciences or Fire and Life Safety Systems or an approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work well under minimal supervision.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience working in one of the related fields.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license with a clean driving abstract.
  • Reliable vehicle for use on corporate business. Mileage will be paid
  • Travel will be required with per diem for meals
  • Demonstrated ability in customer service, written and oral communication, team work, accountability, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.
