Machinist - manual mill- lathes - grinders

The Role:

The Machinist is responsible for the manufacturing of custom machined parts.  The incumbent will conduct all activities in a manner that is conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity and teamwork.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews design specifications, drawings and documentation and provides feedback to the department manager on potential issues with specifications
  • Assembles, repairs, and fabricates metal parts by operating mechanical equipment.
  • Uses approved engineering drawings and design sketches to ensure the proper dimensions and tolerance levels for finished products
  • Makes prototype parts to tight tolerances (0.01mm-0.02mm)
  • Verifies that parts machined are to customer spec using precision measuring instruments
  • Complete set-up sheets; documenting new product requirements for approval
  • Operates all equipment in a safe and efficient manor while following all relevant legislation, policies, and best practices

 

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in machining or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years’ experience with the machining of mechanical components using tools such as manual mill, lathes, grinders, and measuring equipment
  • Experience reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings
  • Ability to read interpret Metric system, and ISO standards of GD&T
  • Good understanding of various materials and their characteristics  
  • Knowledge of calculating speed and feeds
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Capable of machining precision parts to tight tolerances (0.01mm-0.02mm)
  • Knowledge of existing technologies in mechanical subsystems for the purpose of machining
  • Good math skills and understanding complex instructions
